The Unfixed

The Unfixed follows Sey, an alien observer assigned to study Mara Venn, an apparently ordinary human engineer aboard the failing multispecies station Pelagos. While the civilizations of the Concord are shaped by predictable biological instincts—obedience, hierarchy, collective harmony or detached observation—humans possess a terrifying ability: they can recognize their instincts and choose to defy them.

What begins as an investigation into Mara’s unconventional repair methods becomes a political crisis when humanity proves impossible to classify or control. As fear spreads through the Concord, the authoritarian commander Kharek uses a behavioral network to predict dissent, suppress escape routes and impose a single definition of order across entire worlds.

Mara, Sey and an unlikely coalition of aliens must fight without recreating the system they oppose. Their resistance depends not on superior weapons, but on voluntary cooperation, distributed authority and the freedom to refuse—even when refusal makes survival harder.

In the aftermath, the Concord must rebuild its laws around a dangerous new idea: biology does not determine destiny, obedience is not the same as peace, and no society should depend on one flawless authority. Humanity’s greatest threat to the universe is ultimately not its violence, but its contagious belief that every creature can become something other than what it was designed to be.
